Body Type Calculator

The Body Type Calculcator

The Body Type Calculator is made for women to figure out their “body shape,” which can help them get ideas for what to wear. Even though some research has found links between certain body shapes and some health risks, this calculator’s result for body shape is not meant to be a serious sign of health or an ideal that must be met. Instead, the waist-hip ratio, which this calculator also shows, is a better measure of health.

Be sure to stand straight with your arms at your sides when you are measuring. Make sure the tape fits close to the body without being so tight that it squeezes the body (making the measurement inaccurate).

The bust size is the distance around the chest over the fullest part of the breasts when a properly fitting bra is worn.

The waist size—the measurement around the natural waist, just above the belly button—is the smallest.

High hip size—the distance around the upper part of the hip above the pelvis It is about 7 inches (18 cm) below the natural waist.

Hip size—the distance around the upper part of the hip above the pelvis It is about 7 inches (18 cm) below the natural waist.

Shapes of women’s bodies in the fashion business

In the fashion industry, body shapes are often categorized into four classes.

Apple, or inverted triangle

A person with this body shape has shoulders and a bust that are wider than their hips.

banana, straight, or rectangle

This body shape describes a person whose waist size is usually less than 9 inches smaller than their hip or bust size.

Pear, spoon, bell, or triangle

A person with this body shape has hip measurements that are larger than their bust measurements.

Hourglass, X-shape, or triangles opposing or facing inwards

This body shape, which is often called “ideal,” describes a person whose hip and bust measurements are almost the same size but whose waist measurement is smaller. In 2005, North Carolina State University looked at more than 6,000 women and found that 46% of them had banana-shaped bodies, just over 20% had pear-shaped bodies, just under 14% had apple-shaped bodies, and only 8% had hourglass-shaped bodies.

What is my body shape?

The shapes of women’s bodies are based on subjective social norms that vary from one culture to the next. This calculator’s algorithm is based on a study that was published in the International Journal of Clothing Science and Technology. The study divides women’s body shapes into seven groups. There are a lot of different sizes inside each shape. Also, some body types may not fit into any of the following categories:

Hourglass

If (bust-hips) 1″, (hips-bust) 3.6″, (bust-waist) 9″, or (hips-waist) 10″,

Bottom hourglass

If (hips-bust) 3.6″ and (hips-bust) 10″ and (hips-waist) 9″ and (high hip-waist) 1.193

Top hourglass

If (bust-hips) > 1″ AND (bust-hips) 10″ AND (bust-waist) 9″,

Spoon

If (hips-bust) > 2″ AND (hips-waist) 7″ AND (high hip/waist) 1.193

Triangle

If hip-bust is 3.6″ and hip-waist is 9″,

Inverted triangle

If (bust-hips) 3.6″ and (bust-waist) 9″,

Rectangle

If (hips – bust) 3.6″ and (bust – hips) 3.6″ and (bust – waist) 9″ and (hips – waist) 10″,

Waist-to-hip ratio

The waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) is one way your doctor can tell if your extra weight is putting your health at risk. WHR is different from BMI, which measures the ratio of your weight to your height.

Instead, it measures the ratio of your waist circumference to your hip circumference. It shows how much fat you have around your waist, hips, and buttocks. When it comes to health risks, not all extra weight is the same.

One study from 2021 showed that people with a “apple-shaped” body may be more likely to get heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and die too soon than people who carry most of their weight in their hips and thighs (a pear-shaped body).

Even if your BMI is in the moderate range, you may be more likely to get sick. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that a moderate WHR is when: less than 0.9 in men Women must have 0.85 or less Men and women both have a higher chance of getting heart disease and other health problems that are linked to being overweight if their WHR is 1.0 or higher.

You can figure out your WHR yourself, or your doctor can do it for you. To figure out how big it is: Straighten your back and let out a breath. Use a measuring tape to find the smallest part of your waist, which is right above your belly button. This is the size of your waist. Then, take a measurement around the widest part of your buttocks, which is the biggest part of your hips. This is the size of your hips. To figure out your WHR, divide your waist size by the size of your hips.

WHR is a simple, cheap, and accurate way to find out how much body fat you have. It can also tell you how likely it is that you will get heart disease or diabetes. The American Diabetes Association did research that showed WHR is even better than BMI at predicting the risk of heart disease and dying too soon. For example, a 2015 study with more than 15,000 adults showed that a high WHR was linked to an increased risk of dying young, even in people with a moderate BMI.

This is not the only study in which WHR was used to predict health problems. Some other studies are: A study done in 2021 found that WHR is a good way to predict high blood pressure. A study from 2015 found that an increase in WHR is a better predictor of complications in trauma patients than BMI. According to a 2018 study, a high WHR was a strong predictor of death in women with heart failure.

However, researchers didn’t find a link between WHR and death in men with heart failure. A 2016 study found that having a high WHR was linked to both high blood pressure and diabetes. Researchers have also found that having a lower WHR is linked to better health. A 2020 study found that people with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were much less likely to get chronic kidney disease if they lowered their WHR by 5 percent.

What are the bad things about this way of doing things? Because you have to take two different measurements to check WHR, it’s easy to make a mistake. And it’s not always easy to get a good measurement of your hips. WHR can also be harder to understand than waist circumference, which is another way to measure belly fat. If you carry more weight in your stomach, you might have a high WHR. Or, working out might have given you more muscle around your hips. People who are shorter than 5 feet tall or who have a BMI of 35 or more will not be able to get an accurate measurement with WHR. WHR shouldn’t be used in children either.
